As parents, we want to be there for our children: to protect them from the evils of the world, guide them in making the right decisions, and help them be the leaders of the next generation. All we want is for them to be successful. 

But what if, when we guide and push for success, we are hurting them? Are we pushing our own agenda on them? Are we developing our kids to go in the way we want them to go? Or are we developing them in the way they should go? 

Parenting is hard, and we don’t want to push our kids the wrong way. As our children get older, we may feel at times that we can’t help them no matter how hard we try and that they are just ignoring the advice we give them. What can we do if we can’t be the help our kids need? 

But we can at least get the help our kids need! We are under the mistaken impression that the help and development must come from only us, since we’re the parent(s). But really, the help should come from more than one source. When we have a support system, a community, we learn that we don’t have to do this alone. We don’t have to make decisions by ourselves, fight by ourselves, or parent by ourselves. If your child had a toothache, would you take them to the doctor? Of course not! You need a tooth specialist, so you’d take them to the dentist where they can receive the proper help. 

So, when we’re struggling to meet the needs of our children and give them the help that will actually help, we need to talk to someone who has been through it and can assist us in that struggle, whatever it may be. We don’t have to be in this alone!
